LUBBOCK ARBORETUM

Plant Sale April 22

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The Lubbock Arboretum will be hosting its annual plant sale on April

22nd.
The plant sale is one of the most important fundraisers the Arboretum holds. Annually,

nurseries all over Lubbock donate a variety of plants to be sold in order to help the Arboretum fund things like Wildlife Day at the Arboretum and Second Saturday; a non-profit program helps homeowners and other non-profits personalize and design their own landscapes.

This year the plant sale will be taking place between 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the main patio of the Lubbock Memorial Arboretum.

Liz Wagner, a volunteer for the Arboretum, is hopeful that this year will be even more profitable than the last.

“We do this every year,” Wagner said, “and every year the is a little different.”

This event has been taking place for several years every spring, and last year the public began arriving twenty minutes early in anticipation of the event.

The sale will feature waterwise perennials and specialty plants that grow well in Lubbock. In addition, there will be a wide selection of herbs, desert plants and native plants brought in by the South Plains Native Plant Society.

The public is invited to help with the plant sale in several different ways. Volunteers will be welcome to help with sales and advising for prospective buyers and to help set up or tear down the event. If they cannot volunteer the whole day, the Arboretum staff invites the citizens of Lubbock to come by and browse this year’s selection and take home some new plantings with them.

Helen Jarman, a volunteer at the Arboretum for forty-seven years, encouraged everyone to come and volunteer at the Arboretum.

“It’s a place of beauty that is available for everybody who wants to come, free of charge,” she said, “You’re always welcome here, to enjoy or to work!”

With the donations and earning from this year’s plant sale the Arboretum is hoping to expand the Rose Gardens and cultivate new varieties to be enjoyed by the citizen of Lubbock, and to keep the Arboretum a living tribute to everything that is beautiful!

The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum is a sanctuary of nature for Lubbock and the neighboring towns. The staff and volunteers represent a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and are involved in a variety of local, state, regional, national, and international activities and organizations. The Arboretum is a non-profit organization and is run by dedicated volunteers and the generous donations of the city and its citizens.
